Sunflake Monday

For all those "Frozen" haters who can't stand THE song, "Frozen II" is on the way, and I hope like heck it will include music we can parody just as well as "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?"

Speaking of "Frozen," have you seen the "Frozen Fever" trailer?!? It's filled with, not snowflakes, but sunflowers!!!

While looking for a backing for a quilt, I discovered a stack of crocheted sunflowers I made in a different life, back when my kids were still young. I decided it's the perfect time to make a few more sunflowers and write the pattern.

And. why, yes, there is such a thing as a vanilla white sunflower!

almost white vanilla sunflower

Snowflakes are not entirely abandoned. They're just seeing a bit of a spring thaw. Hope you enjoy the warmth!

You may do whatever you'd like with sunflakes you make from this pattern, but you may not sell or republish the pattern. Thanks, and enjoy!

Sunflakes

Finished Size: 2 inches from point to point
Materials: Size 10 crochet thread in yellow and brown or other sunflower colors (my early sunflakes may have been made with embroidery floss), size 7 crochet hook, empty pizza box, wax paper or plastic wrap, cellophane tape, water soluble school glue or desired stiffener, water, glitter, small container for glue/water mixture, paintbrush, stick pins that won't be used later for sewing, clear thread or fishing line
NOTE: Sunflowers do not necessarily need to be stiffened. They make great appliques, but they also are great in jewelry and hair accessories. Stiffenened, they might be an awesome addition to this year's Christmas tree, too.

  1. Sure signs of better day without snow when sun flowers show. The sequel is just a cash in, bet it won't be as good as they rarely are, especially animated sequels

  3. Gosh, that yarn is pretty.

I love that there are so many varieties of sunflower. They're the cheeriest of all the summer blooms, I think.
