Snowflake Monday

Revived Snowflake

I designed this snowflake back in 2011, inspired by the pansy-hued hand-dyed thread shown above. It was an okay snowflake, but in my mind, it needed something more. The Lizard said it looks anorexic...

I've been dipping into some of my unpublished old snowflake patterns for the last few weeks in an attempt to revive them and breathe second life into them. I really like the modifications to the white one!

You may do whatever you'd like with snowflakes you make from this pattern, but you may not sell the pattern. Thanks, and enjoy!

Finished Size: 6 inches from point to point
Materials: Size 10 crochet thread, size 8 crochet hook, empty pizza box, wax paper or plastic wrap, cellophane tape, school glue (make sure it is water soluble), water, glitter, small container for glue/water mixture, paintbrush, stick pins that won't be used later for sewing, clear thread or fishing line

Revived Snowflake Instructions

If you're not reading this pattern on Snowcatcher, you're not reading the designer's blog. Please go here to see the original.

Revived Snowflake

Round 3, White Snowflake: *4 sc in next ch 3 sp, 2 hdc in next tip, 3 dc in same tip, ch 20, 1 dc in 11th ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, ch 5, sk next 5 ch, 1 dc in each of next 3 ch, 3 dc in same tip, 2 hdc in same tip, 4 sc in next ch 3 sp; repeat from * around 5 times; sl st in starting sc; bind off. Weave in ends.

Finish: Tape wax paper or plastic wrap to top of empty pizza box. Pin snowflake to box on top of wax paper or plastic wrap.

Mix a few drops of water with a teaspoon of glue in small washable container. Paint snowflake with glue mixture. Sprinkle lightly with glitter. Wash paintbrush and container thoroughly. Allow snowflake to dry at least 24 hours. Remove pins. Gently peel snowflake from wax paper or plastic wrap. Attach 10-inch clear thread to one spoke, weaving in end. Wrap fishing line around tree branch (or tape to ceiling or any overhead surface) and watch the snowflake twirl freely whenever you walk by! Snowflake also may be taped to window or tied to doorknob or cabinet handle.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I try to help crocheters having difficulty with my patterns when possible, but I do not have (and do not want) 24-hour internet access.

If you need immediate assistance, please consider asking for assistance on Ravelry (either the Snowflake group or the Techniques group), Crochetville or Sisters of the Snowflake. All three are totally free and wonderful resources loaded with friendly, experienced and helpful crafters. Thank you for being patient and considerate.

    1. A buffed flake! Oh, now I'm going to have to go and design one I can use that name on!!! Just see what you've done! ;)

  3. I didn't think it looked anorexic at all - I thought it looked like a bike tool!

White version looks space-age - very cool!

P.S. Totally off-subject, but we LOVED the Mt. Evans article in Peloton's Adventure issue. Mr. M thought the pictures were simply amazing and I really enjoyed the text. "The best way to deal with Evans is to find a person you really like, pedal and talk. You'll get there eventually." That's exactly how I felt about Bike MS the last two years. :)

    1. That's so funny, Sue, because Lizard has been oohing and aaahing over that very same article all week! He thinks we should do our own version of that trip report because we take better photos. Ha ha ha ha!

Bike tool, indeed... may have to play with that idea a bit!!!

    1. Hi, Margaret. I don’t think I published the original because I didn’t really like it. I will see if I saved the original notes and perhaps publish it as a new pattern. But I may have to rewrite it. So it won’t be right away.
