Finish: Tape wax paper or plastic wrap to top of empty pizza box. Pin snowflake to box on top of wax paper or plastic wrap.

Mix a few drops of water with a teaspoon of glue in small washable container. Paint snowflake with glue mixture. Sprinkle lightly with glitter. Wash paintbrush and container thoroughly. OR, if starching, sufficiently cover snowflake with starch, whether by spray or by soaking in baggie with starch and then pinning. Allow snowflake to dry at least 24 hours. Remove pins. Gently peel snowflake from wax paper or plastic wrap. Press on a slightly moist towel with clean, hot iron (I use the cotton setting) if snowflake is starched, taking care not to scorch, especially white snowflakes. Attach 10-inch clear thread to one spoke, weaving in end. Wrap fishing line around tree branch (or tape to ceiling or any overhead surface) and watch the snowflake twirl freely whenever you walk by! Snowflake also may be taped to window or tied to doorknob or cabinet handle.

  1. The only good thing about Monday might be your posting of a new snowflake pattern. You never disappoint me. I definitely like this pattern, then again I haven't found one of yours I didn't like. I even like it in pink! Have a good week!

  2. Have you thought of making a snowflake Christmas tree skirt? That would be fun! Would it be one big snowflake or several smaller flakes? Would it be made out of a variegated 4-ply, a white chunky from Bernat? Or maybe color your own like you have with some of your smaller projects.

  6. I love the little hearts hanging down towards the center. A very pretty and classic-looking snowflake.

  7. I love your snowflakes, and have been going crazy with making them this winter!! This one has been giving me a little trouble however :( In round six, when making the heart you say to slip stitch in the third chain of ch 10, but before that you say to chain 8... is there a typo somewhere? I will patiently be awaiting your reply, and thank you for the lovely patterns!

  8. Thank you, D, for being patient with me and helping fix the pattern. I had to go back and count the chains in the original snowflake to figure out what I'd done wrong. I think it probably was a ch 10 at some point, and I adjusted it to improve the appearance and just didn't catch that second reference. It should be a ch 8; I will correct the pattern. Thank you!

  9. I was going to make up some snowflakes using this pattern, but I got to step five, where it says 1 dc in top of [dc], 1 dc in bottom of [dc]and it isn't working out for me at all. I have tried everything that I can think of, but it just doesn't seem to be working out no matter what I do.

    1. Hello Snowcatcher! I stumbled upon the same problem and your photo tutorial helped a lot. The heart looks a lot better with Ch 6 than ch 8 as mentioned here in the instructions. Is it supposed to be done with ch8? Also, the instructions do not match with those in the photo tutorial.

    2. Hi, Deepa, and welcome! The tutorial was made for a different snowflake, which is why they don't match. The tutorial was strictly to help crocheters know where to stitch into the horizontal double crochet. You are more than welcome to do whatever size heart you like best on any snowflake patterns. I made bigger hearts on this snowflake because I wanted them to really stand out, but I've also made this pattern with smaller hearts and no hearts at all.
