No Flake Monday

I had a very special snowflake motif project completion I planned to share today; I thought for sure I'd finish it over the weekend.

The snowflake pattern and join-as-you-go motif pattern are both done, the snowflake photography is done, and the snowflake actually got donated to typhoon survivors in Guam, but my matching motif project is still on the hook.

I'm hoping I will be able to share the completed project next week.

Until then, please enjoy photos of some of my favorite motif projects over the years.

No Flake Monday

The pattern for today's snowflake isn't finished yet, and I sincerely apologize. I tried my best. Just couldn't get it done in time. The flake is awesome, so it will be worth the wait. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy a few real snowflakes from last year.

I got a few shots I think might be outstanding last February or so, but life's been so crazy, I've downloaded the camera and backed up the images, but I have not edited. I know there are good flakes in there, but I haven't looked at them.

There have been a couple of snowstorms in the mountains, but I haven't been able to get up there for photography or hiking.

We normally have our first flakes of the year by now, but we're still in the heat dome with no relief in the ten-day forecast. So these images are making me super homesick for real snowflakes!

No Flake Monday

Still in the same time crunch as last week; hope to have things under control in July. I'll try to get a new snowflake pattern worked up soon. Just burning the candle at both ends right now, and there isn't time for things I love most.

I did try to create a "pandemonium snowflake" in AI for today, and I was shocked when it actually created two (out of eight) with six sides! I plan to crochet both of these flakes, one perhaps as soon as things slow down. (Update: I actually crocheted the AI flake above yesterday after church while Lizard slept! Now I just have to write the pattern!)

For your visual enjoyment, I also have one more digital snowflake temperature quilt that will be complete in the next six days. This is going to make a GREAT fat quarter on Spoonflower! See how fast we went from comfortable to way too hot, literally overnight?!? I may have to start a new half-year digital quilt for the second half of this year. You can never have too many digital snowflake temperature quilts, right?

No Flake Monday

I thought I'd be able to at least make one snowflake rock in the last seven days, but it just didn't happen. It's nearly 9:45 Sunday night as I type this, and I just don't have it in me to make a flake or a rock covering before I try to fall asleep. Lots of changes coming in my life the next few weeks, and I'm sort of scrambling to try to keep up with everything. I'll return with a new pattern, but it might be after the dust settles. So, in the meantime, please enjoy my nearly done all-blue half-year 2024 digital temperature quilt. I am SO excited to be nearly done with this project!

No Flake Monday

I've been stressing about this for quite a while now. Things at home are so traumatic. Thread is expensive. Glue for stiffening is expensive. Photography storage space is expensive. Technology can be such a pain. My eyes are begging me to stop straining them. And I'm just tired.

I've designed more than 800 snowflake patterns, so there are plenty from which to choose.

And that darned snowflake directory... man, that thing is a bear to maintain. More than an hour of tedious manual coding every six weeks. It's just not something my life needs right now.

I've known for a few months now this day was looming, but that doesn't make it any less painful. Because I'm not quite in a position to retire from my real job yet, I've decided it's time to retire Snowcatcher. It's been a great journey! Thanks for all the years, memories, inspiration, friendship and positive feedback! Spread kindness like snowflakes!

No Flake Monday

One of my loyal readers suggested a year or so ago that I write just one snowflake pattern per month instead of walk away from my blog when things get so busy I don't have time for it. It feels like that's what I'm doing right now! I think this is the third consecutive week I haven't had a chance to write the pattern for the flake I designed based on my last published pattern, Spectrum Snowflake.

Thanks to my mother-in-law (who wants me to be able to continue working from home), I ordered a new computer back in January. Because the one I'm typing this very blog post on is beginning to really show its age. Plus, Windows 7 is no longer supported, and although I was mandated to upgrade to Windows 10 last year in order to keep using my paid Photoshop subscription, I'm loosing access to more and more programs and features each week as this old dinosaur sincerely tries to keep plodding along.

My new computer arrived two weeks ago, and it's still in the box in which it came. I haven't even had a chance yet to open it. (And I'm running out of days to return it if there is a problem!!!) Lizard jokes that I'm quarantining the new computer because it came from overseas. Smirk, smirk.

I shot about 260 snowflake photos during our last storm, which was March 30. I've still got about 230 more to edit. (Plus a ton of photos from a December storm I still haven't even viewed yet.) I hope you enjoy a few of my most recent edited flakes today as consolation for no new pattern.

No Flake Monday

Once again, I didn't get a pattern written, and for that, I apologize. There are nearly 700 snowflake patterns available on my website, so I hope there is something to keep you busy while I am too busy to write another pattern. I hope you enjoy these collages I created a while back. It's fun to play with snowflake photos.

No Flake Monday

Last week was beyond busy with work, taxes, work, time change sleep difficulties, work and backyard snowmelt drainage, plus what may be our most important neurology appointment to date happening perhaps as you read this, so I didn't get a chance to write this week's pattern. The flake is done, but not stiffened. I barely even had enough time to shoot any of the individual specimens that piled up to 12 inches on St. Patrick's Day!

Nevertheless, I did get about 30 shots at the very end of the storm. I had to keep putting my sheet of glass in the freezer for ten minutes at a time because the outside temperature wasn't cold enough for the swirling crystals to last beyond one shot with my flash, which doubled as melting medium.

March and April are our snowiest months. The flakes were big, fat and fluffy, loaded with moisture, which is so needed. Some flakes are not as delicate and lacy, but you can sure bet they provided just the magic my garden needs!

We are expecting up to another six inches today, with flurries through Wednesday. Although I'm ready for my daffodils, hyacinths and grape hyacinths to start coloring both the front and back yards, I hope the snow will keep right on falling often for another six or so weeks! I just hope I get some snowflake shooting time each storm...

No Flake Monday

Good morning, Sisters (and Brothers) of the Flake! I had a flake in mind for today, but I got my first dose of Shingrix on Friday, and I'm not feeling so great. I just want to sleep and stay wrapped up in several layers of fleece. But, better than getting shingles. See you next week!

No Flake Monday

I've frogged and reworked the sixth round of this snowflake about 18 times so far, and I think I've finally got it the way I want it, but I still have to figure out the seventh round, and the pattern is not written yet. Lizard thought I was trying to make skulls for Halloween. Hmmm... maybe I should go back to the drawing board!

Here is my inspiration from Alexey Kljatov. Isn't this a beauty?!?

No Flake Monday

With all the record-breaking heat we've had lately, snowflakes would be such a relief. However, events of the last few weeks have kept me from my crochet hook once again. Hopefully there are enough patterns already published here to get you through to the next week or so, while I try to meet other obligations and responsibilities.

My internet access has been limited, and crochet time has not been abundant. So please enjoy some snowflake photos and enjoy good weather if you have it!
