Lizard has dreamed of being a lavendar farmer for years now. I'm not sure we'll ever be able to buy acreage for a real farm now, but I can dig, and I can plant.
I spent an entire what-I-thought-would-not-be-as-hot-as-it-was Saturday tilling - by hand - a small section of our clay weed patch, then planting and mulching a modest lavender farm for Lizard.
Totally worth every drop of sweat invested. Now I just have to build some type of stairway so Lizard can access it.

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry I did not respond in a more timely manner! My goodness, I didn't remember writing this, much less receiving comments on it! Thank you, Regula, for hanging with me all these years! I was trying to remember when I started the lavender farm after pruning this morning before it got too hot. It was fun to come back and see the beginning, and then to see comments from my friends who are still with me now. Thank you for joining me for this merry go round!

ReplyDeleteAgain, Mary Ann, thank you so much for hanging with me all these years. I'm so sorry I didn't respond when you made the comment. I guess I was pre-occupied. When I first planted lavender, I tried every cultival I could find. Seven different kinds the first time! (That was in the front yard, not the backyard.) Only one survived the first winter. And all these years. I didn't know then what kind it was, but I guess that's what I'm using now. That first lavender farm batch for Lizard included Spanish, which does not do well here. I've never tried it again. Most of what I'm using now is munstead, I think. I think two hidcote have thrived, too.
DeleteThat's funny. I just looked it up to make sure, and I learned that I should avoid Spanish lavender here! It is not a healthy plant here!

ReplyDeleteSue, I'm so sorry I didn't respond when you first left this comment. I guess I had other things on my mind and didn't realize I had not responded to comments. Thank you! The mini lavender farm was one of the hardest things to even look at in April and May of this year, but I'm learning to really cherish it now, because he did. I'm going to do my best to keep it up to par for the local inspectors. ;)
DeleteAnd, I just realized, by looking at the date I published this post, it was right after we were sealed in the temple. So i did have very beautiful things on my mind then. I'm so thankful I came back to this post to see these comments and to relive these moments. ♥ ♥ ♥
