A Whole New WIP

My goal every week is to finish a Work in Progress or WIP I can share on my blog. There are days when I'm lucky to finish a sentence, much less a quilt or any other of the zillions of WIPs lurking in my abode.

And yet, I should not be disappointed. Even though I may not finish a quilt every week, I have published a new snowflake or other crochet pattern every Monday for seven and a half years now.

My autumn 2016 WIP progress is significant. I finished four quilts in four days during the Thanksgiving break, and those four are included in six quilts I finished in seven days. I don't know that I've ever made that kind of progress before! Although most of the boy quilts I finished in 2016 were not on the WIP list because I didn't have any WIPS (or stash) suitable for boys, I finished a dozen quilting projects in 2016, plus eight more flimsies (that ARE on my WIP list!!!).

If I can maintain an average of one finished quilt a month, I could be done with all my WIPs in just three years! If I quit starting new quilts. Which is hard when family members keep having more boy babies! Remington is due in just two more weeks!

I went just a wee bit crazy in December during all the great sales and built my boy stash sufficiently so I shouldn't have to buy new fabric for new boys this year.


I finished the top for Remington's quilt on New Year's Day using selections from my new boy stash and leftovers from other projects for the block borders.


I couldn't resist starting yet more new quilts the last few weeks because Spoonflower's annual half-price fat quarter sale inspired me to create more designs. I love the new designs SO much, I couldn't wait to begin using my new fat quarters. Besides, the quilts they become will be great gifts for new grands!

Friday Funny

I do not text. I do not tweet. I don't often get on Facebook. But I do know a few common texting shortcuts and acronyms. Mostly because my bosses friends use them in regular emails, but also because much of the electronic slang has become mainstream.

TMI. (Too Much Information) LOL. (Laughing Out Loud) MIL. (Mother-in-Law) FAQ. (Frequently Asked Questions) TOS. (Terms of Service)

I recently noticed a new combination of capital letters I did not recognize on Ravelry, so I had to look it up. The list of acronyms and newly coined words and terms wasn't too long, so I read the entire thing. I feel as if I went back to school and earned a new degree in language!!! This was fun!

I've always known I'm bicraftual. (I knit and crochet, and sometimes including both art forms together in one project.) I learned I also CIP. (Crochet In Public) (I also KIP, but I already knew that acronym.)

I've also known for ages I have WIPs. Work in Progress. Lots and lots of Work in Progress.

Since I was a child, my favorite way of correcting a knitting booboo has been to drop and pull out necessary stitches and use a crochet hook to work back up to the knitting needles correctly. But if the mistake was in the same unfinished row , I would unknit back to the owie and redo it. Now I learn that process has a name: tink. Which is "knit" spelled backwards. Who knew?!?

And yes, one day I'll finish all my WIPs...

I also learned there's a name for what happens when I write too much, which, according to my dad, happens a bit too much. TL:DR (Too Long; Didn't Read)

My dad had another name for it. Typographical Diarrhea. Or TD. Not to be confused with touchdown. I don't know if I like my dad's description. And I don't think I'm going to shoot a photo to illustrate his humor. No, I'm not going to crochet it either!
