Dream Come True

Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel

I saw a photograph of the Air Force Academy chapel taken at dusk long before I moved to Colorado in 1989. After moving to Colorado, I longed to visit the chapel, camera in hand.

The Lizard studied in Colorado Springs and often rode his road bike on a 40-mile Air Force Academy Loop, back before security was as tight as it is these days. He has longed to return and ride again.

Civilians may ride from the gate to the visitor center now, but that's all, without Department of Defense clearance.

Still, the hilly terrain makes a wonderful training ride, and the chapel is every bit as beautiful as the photo I saw so many years ago.

We were at the chapel at the right time, too. One of the cadets studying falconry took the team mascot out for a bit of fresh air, as well as tourist photos, just in time for us to enjoy the feathered friend.
