Deceived

Deception Pass

The plan had been Shi Shi Beach and the Point of Arches. Instead, we pointed our 4Runner in the opposite direction and took it on a ferry ride to Whidbey Island. My car, in turn, rewarded us with a lovely drive up the island to Deception Pass. Although a major commuting highway runs right throught the center of the state park, we enjoyed walks along the bridge and shores between Whidbey and Fidalgo Island and the best sunset photos of our entire vacation.

I'd always wanted to see what I'd missed when I slept through Deception Pass many, many years ago, and now I've seen it. Even The Lizard felt this area was picturesque but just far too crowded and motorized to provide an authentic vacation feel.

This one doesn't make our "Must Go Back" list, but it was a good night's rest before the next days' drive to another place I've longed to visit but have never had a chance to explore.

I'll share more about that dreamy venue later this week.

  1. Looks like a great spot, but yeah many are tourist traps so it can make them less enjoyable.

  2. Way cool! I think we need to add the Mount Baker area to our PNW list of places to visit as well.

  3. Wow, Deception Pass is lovely. I like that shot through the bridge railings ... and I can just hear the waves splashing when I look at those foamy pictures! :)
