Star Dish Monday

a kiss of patriotism

Today's pattern is a departure from the snowflake tradition; there is no snowflake pattern today. I've shared starflake patterns a couple of Mondays in the past, and this new project is star shaped, so I hope the pattern doesn't disappoint.

When I'm squaring up fabric, straightening cuts a fabric store made, I deliberately cut strips 1/8th-inch to 1/2-inch wide from the edges, then stitch the strips together and roll them into a ball I can crochet with like yarn.

to be trimmed

Selvedges work with this, too, although they may require a size larger crochet hook than I've used for this project.

Patriotic Selvedges

I recently finished up the top for a Quilt of Valor, and a plethora of trimmed strips, all in a harmonizing patriotic colorway, stacked up. Just in time for Memorial Day, I decided to make another starflake that may be used as a coaster or hot pad. Yards of fabric strips remained when I got done, so I made a star-shaped candy dish!

You may do whatever you'd like with the starflakes and star dishes you make from this pattern, but you may not sell or republish the pattern. Thanks, and enjoy!

    1. I think the candy may well be the best part of the project, Pat. :D

  3. What a great idea to trim the strips as you go ... then you always have a supply. I love fabric coasters and keep several on our tables here. The star shape is way more fun than my round ones! And the candy dish is awesome. I suppose all those kisses are for the Lizard.... ;)

    1. I've got another pile building, Sue. I'm wondering if I should come up with another new pattern or just keep making candy dishes. Since this one's been such a hit at my house.

Yes, Lizard loved all the kisses. Dare to take a guess how long they lasted? :)
