Back to the Grind

Deception Pass Sunset

Hi! I'm baaaaaack! Did you miss me? Did you even notice I was gone???

That was pretty sneaky, wasn't it? Escaping the routine of day-to-day work, as well as the deadlines of blogging, for a whole ten days without publicly announcing it up front...

Returning to the Olympic Peninsula has long been time coming, and this month, we finally made it happen. I spent many vacations in Washington state while my adopted kids were still young, and The Lizard nailed his master's degree in Oregon. Two years ago, the two of us did a whirlwind tour of the east coast of Puget Sound to photograph a friend and former co-worker's wedding. The economy being what it was then, four days were all we could manage, and we have longed to return and spend more time doing things we love and touring destinations we had never seen together, as a couple.

August 2014

More than 3,000 miles and 2,000 photos later, our shoes have now touched the Salish Sea, our bikes have tread the Pacific Northwest, our nostrils have come alive with the scent of lavender, we've (sort of) climbed a mountain, visited three national parks and one state park, visited one old (to me) and two new (to me) temples, our cameras have given our eyes the best and most productive workout on the planet, our senses came alive in the spray of waterfalls, we met a Smokejumper, and we photographed antelope and ospreys and bears, oh, my!

Not only do I have some pretty spectacular Wordless Wednesdays up my sleeve once I finish editing everything, but I hope to delight you with written and photographically recorded highlights of our biggest summer vacation yet in the days to come.

Best of all, back at home, my little clove trees survived the time alone! Yippee!

seldom heard, well must you keep your secrets
locked inside, hidden deep from view?
