Snowflake Monday

Page 101 Art Forum Magazine, January 2014

Back in January, I was thrilled beyond words when my snowflake directory was featured in Art Forum magazine. The author of the article, Bunny Rogers, favored my Columbine Mine Snowflake and commented tongue-in-cheek that it should be called A Snowflake for Bunny.

Here you go, Bunny!

You may do whatever you'd like with snowflakes you make from this pattern, but you may not sell or republish the pattern. Thanks, and enjoy!

A Snowflake for Bunny

Finished Size: 7.25 inches from point to point
Materials: Size 10 crochet thread, size 8 crochet hook, empty pizza box, wax paper or plastic wrap, cellophane tape, water soluble school glue or desired stiffener, water, glitter, small container for glue/water mixture, paintbrush, stick pins that won't be used later for sewing, clear thread or fishing line

Finish: Tape wax paper or plastic wrap to top of empty pizza box. Pin snowflake to box on top of wax paper or plastic wrap.

If using glue, mix a few drops of water with a teaspoon of glue in small washable container. Paint snowflake with glue mixture or desired stiffener. Sprinkle lightly with glitter. Wash paintbrush and container thoroughly. Allow snowflake to dry at least 24 hours. Remove pins. Gently peel snowflake from wax paper or plastic wrap. Attach 10-inch clear thread to one spoke, weaving in end. Wrap fishing line around tree branch (or tape to ceiling or any overhead surface) and watch the snowflake twirl freely whenever you walk by! Snowflake also may be taped to window or tied to doorknob or cabinet handle.

    1. Thank you, Devyn! I think it is; I just finished making another one, and I didn't notice the * being in the wrong place, but sometimes my brain sees what the pattern should say instead of what the pattern does say...

  6. This snowflake is so beautiful. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to make one, thank you so mush for sharing this pattern. But I have come to a stop í round 6. In round 5 there are 3dc + 1dc + 3dc (total 7 dc) between groups of 5 tr. In round 6 it starts with "1 sc in each of next 3 dc" and ends with "sk next dc, 1 sc in each of next 3 dc, sk next dc" or total 8 dc. I would be very grateful if you could please help me.

    1. Thank you, Hulda, and thank you for bringing this to my attention. I just made another of this snowflake last month, and I didn't notice that. Those sk dc instructions appear errant, and I am removing both of them.

    2. row #5 what is the gap between the 2 groups of 3 sc that you are supposed to do a dc in? help

    3. hello haveing trouble with round 5 in snowflake for bunny what is the gap you are talking about?

    4. Hi, Lee. In looking at the photo, there are groups of sc in Round 4 you are working over. You should have three dc, then a single dc in the center between points, above the single dc in Round 3, then three more dc.

  8. Round 7, I think there needs to be a 'sk next 3 sc' at the beginning (or end) of the repeated section (or else, the repeat asterisk needs to be moved to before that instruction at the beginning of the line). Thanks for all these snowflake patterns! :)

    1. Very good catch, EP! Thank you for pointing it out to me. I will fix that right away.

  9. After having essentially done the round 7 repeat about 15 times trying to make it work, I think I figured it out. The last bit that reads "1 dc between next 2 3/sc groups" is also off - the end of the line should be "1 dc btwn next 3-sc group, sk next 3 sc." (which incorporates my earlier comment). If you work as written, you end up with 5 dc posts where all the pictures I looked at (yours and Ravelry projects) show only 4. If you work as written but also add the sk next 3 as I earlier mentioned (because I missed "next 2" and just read it as "next" initially), then the 'tree' bit ends up one 'spoke' further over from center and the whole thing is out of whack. I hope that made some kind of sense. :)

    1. Thank you, EP, for your perseverance in trying to finish even though it must not have made sense! I am not sure I'm following your comment, but I will try making the snowflake again to see if I see the mistake. I have fixed the previous one you pointed out. Thank you again for trying to help me get the pattern perfect!
